130 years new
To put Cathedral Grammar’s heritage in context, the school celebrated its 50th anniversary before other well-known private preparatory schools in Christchurch had opened their doors.
Heritage and history are undoubtedly important. Just as important, though, is how we approach the future.
Many Cathedral Grammar children will witness the arrival of the 22nd century.
So, over 130 years on from the school’s founding, we’re in the process of transforming the most established private preparatory school in Christchurch into one that is, in a physical sense, also the most future-oriented.
Among the many twists and turns of the past 130 years, none was as sudden or unexpected as the Christchurch earthquakes.
It’s certainly been a twist, but we’ve preferred to focus on the turns. We’re using the opportunity to turn adversity into advancement, to build on the extraordinary foundations of the past to create a school for the future.
We’re working with leaders in school design to create a school founded in the 19th century and built for the 21st century.
It’s the least we could do.
After all, it’s our children’s century.
“to build on the extraordinary foundations of the past to create a school for the future”
