Increasingly, many parents are choosing to send their daughters to The Cathedral Grammar School for their Intermediate years. The strong academic reputation of the School, and high degree of specialist opportunities, ensures that each girl is as well prepared as possible for her secondary school years.
The intermediate years are characterised by significantly increased use of specialist teachers, with less time spent in “home” rooms. In the core subjects of English and mathematics classes may be further split and ability streamed. This ensures that all pupils receive greater attention pitched at a level that is appropriate for their individual needs.
As senior pupils in the school more is expected of the older girls in respect to leadership activities. In particular, at Year 8 level, all girls are expected to lead by example. Specific leadership roles are bestowed on the Head Girl, Deputy Head Girl, House and Sport Captains. Additionally, other leadership positions are awarded across a number of activities, such as Head of Orchestra, Choir leaders and Sacristans.
The Intermediate years are focused on instilling more responsibility in the girls and preparing them for a seamless transition to a secondary school of their choice.
