Angus Gifford, Canterbury Champion!
Despite a serious knee injury only a fortnight ago, Angus Gifford, 7OF, fought his way to Championship Gold and glory at the Canterbury Judo Camps on Sunday at the Lincoln Events' Centre.
Even more impressive, Angus won the Open Senior Boys' grade - a category without a weight restriction for boys aged 11-14 - and Angus is only in Y7!
The competition consisted of six fights of three minutes, with victory adjudged to the fighter awarded the most points in this time. Although graciously conceding that one or two matches might have been close, Angus's results en route to the semi and then in winning the final were comprehensive.
Angus's next challenge is the Auckland Champs, in Term III, an event which attracts fighters from both New Zealand and Australia.
