 Swimming Championships

The annual Swimming Championships were completed in two days of racing in the Christ's College heated pool, the Boys' School competing on Thursday, 11 February follwed by the Girls' School on the next day.  Each pupil entered three or more events to earn points for his/her House and to endeavour to win the respective grade championships.  Admidst deafening cheering on of the swimmers for each House, all pupils competed fiercely to not only better their own previous performances, but to win as many points as possible for their House.

The House Relays, both freestyle and medley, were, as always, the highlight and penultimate moment of the day's events, but the staff v senior pupils relay was the final spectacle with Mr Durant, in particular, a blur of speed and spray as the staff team endeavoured to match the Year 8 boy teams.  The Year 8 girls teams were clearly in a class above the staff in the their relay.  A great win for all after a most enjoyable day's competition.

Worthy of particular mention are the 11 senior and open records broken by Charlotte Moala during the Girls' Swimming Championships.  Charlotte is now the fastest swimmer in the school having posted not only new record times in the girls' events, but also times that are clearly lower than all the Boys' School records for the same events.  Jemima Allison also posted two new records for 25m and 50m breaststroke, and the following also posted new records in single events: Milly Dickie, Joshua Morrison, George Clarke and Ben Place.

Results of both the Boys' and Girls' Swimming Sports are available on the school's Intranet, as are photographs taken on the day.
