Maths Curriculum | Cathedral Grammar School Christchurch

Emphasis is placed on the development of confidence in mathematics from an early age. It is essential that the fundamentals are well taught and thoroughly understood by each pupil.

Mathematics teaching is grounded in a thorough knowledge and quick recall of mathematical tables. There is a daily programme of tables and mental arithmetic.

Among the other areas which have an important place are mechanical mathematics (the development of accuracy in computation).

Work in problem solving is another important area in the programme.

Children of ability in the prep schools have plenty of opportunity to be challenged with problem solving exercises and a high standard of attainment is encouraged.
