Art Curriculum | Cathedral Grammar School Christchurch

The art room is a spacious, naturally-lit facility, with large working areas. It is well equipped for all facets of art, and allows the comprehensive art curriculum to be effectively delivered.

Children are encouraged to develop their own creative ideas and appreciation of their visual environment. Their imagination is stimulated while, at the same time, they are given guidance to explore a wide variety of skills and media.web 2009 140

The broad curriculum is progressively implemented from pre-school onwards and is delivered by specialist art teachers.

At every level opportunities are provided for individual and group experience in all aspects of two-dimensional expression such as painting, drawing, printmaking, collage and designing. Three-dimensional expression occurs through sculptural constructions in media such as pottery, clay, block, cardboard, wool, wire and wood.

Art appreciation is also an important part of the programme, and full advantage of the close proximity of art galleries is taken to view exhibitions by local and international artists and contemporary crafts people.
